Committed to community
Purple Mountain Arts Residency initiates and delivers a range of activities to the community of Porterville and the Berg River region. We also invest in artisanal services and small local businesses throughout our region.
These initiatives, education programs and financial injections seek to address a lack of access to learning opportunities, skills development and employment opportunities, thereby aiming to redress historic and continued socio-economic marginalisation.
All programs are free to the community, and include:
Online Mentorship and Skills Development
Highly skilled professionals partner with PMAR to engage with young adults, persons with disabilities and senior citizens by providing in-person and/or online mentorship in a range of classes, including
- Poetry
- Photography
- Theatre & Film Acting
- Corporate English Language Classes
Arts Education Programs with Performance and Exhibition Outcome Opportunities
PMAR offers free visual arts and theatre performance classes, each with their own outcome, either in performance or exhibition opportunities. These classes are held at the local Porterville High School as well as the local POP Centre.
Arts Management and Event Planning Internships
PMAR includes local youth, women, senior citizens and people with disabilities in the planning and roll-out of their events.
Proposal Writing and Sponsorship Application Workshops
Through the generous support of professionals in the funding sector, Purple Mountain Arts Residency is able to offer the Porterville community, and residents of the broader Berg River region, learning and skills upliftment opportunities in the area of proposal writing and funding applications. Open Calls and funding opportunities are shared with the community, and guidance on how to apply is offered free of charge.
