Born and schooled in Scotland, Alan studied International Marketing in London before joining the healthcare industry in various marketing and general management positions. Over the years, this included working in Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Basel, New York and Paris for large multinational corporations such as Roche, Bayer and Sanofi. As well as chairing the Global industry association for Consumer healthcare companies for two years, Alan has also been an active participant in various non-profit organizations. This included 10 years on the Board of the African Leadership Foundation, serving on the Board of NewsDecoder, a journalism website for high school students and as the Chair of the US Board of The National Theatre of Scotland. Now semi-retired, Alan consults for various private equity firms and sits on the board of a Danish pharmaceutical company, while returning to live close to his three children in Cape Town.
