Bella joined the Southern African Economist, a magazine published by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Press Trust based at Mass Media House in Harare. Together with her Managing Editor, Pat Made, she co-wrote, co-edited and co-researched the African Women in Development magazine, (1994) – a special edition of a supplement to the main magazine distributed at the Dakar preparatory conference for the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing. In 1994, Bella served as rapporteur for Stella Makanya, who managed the southern Africa regional preparations for Beijing. Bella is a freelance journalist and stringer reporter for three international news agencies: Inter Press Service (IPS), the Women’s Feature Service (WFS) based in New Delhi, and the Africa Information Afrique (AIA). Her journalism focused on writing stories that amplified the voices of African women news sources, as well as produced narratives which documented the experiences of devaluation, discrimination and exclusion of African women from enjoying their entitlements to equal citizenship, as well as on arts and culture. In 1996, Bella co-wrote, co-edited and co-published together with Pat Made her first book Beyond Beijing, Strategies and Visions Towards Women’s Equality.
